Problem and value

Changing meta.translations can change visible legend wording while Architecture compare reports presentationChanged: false. Include non-empty translation catalogs in the canonical presentation projection; preserve dictionary-order equivalence, empty/omitted catalog equivalence, and independent entity/provenance classification. Closes #600.

Stability impact

Candidate f4e5b81244676f461aadbe10ed2b95bac4e0c966 normally merges current dev 82c7e0f089a02a4d514714adf37dc2061682da5f into the previous PR head 6c744b23, retaining the original author history. Only the changelog and generated ZIP conflicted: the changelog retains current dev's release history plus the #600 entry; the ZIP was rebuilt from combined source. Runtime behavior and the six regression cases are unchanged from the previous reviewed head.

The diff against dev remains five files: two projection entries, the six-case public CLI regression, delivery-contract documentation, an Unreleased changelog entry and the rebuilt ZIP. Empty and omitted catalogs keep distinct authored-source digests while yielding equal presentation and rendered SVG. Schema, geometry, source provenance and entity counts are unchanged. No release identity changed.

Validation

  • Current-dev reproduction using the same six public CLI cases: 3 pass / 3 fail / 0 skip; adding, removing and editing translations fail. Candidate passes all six.
  • Official Node 22.23.3, bundled zlib 1.3.1-e00f703, macOS arm64: focused translation/Delta/literal/marker/comparison-recovery suites 69 pass / 0 fail / 0 skip.
  • Core smoke (npm test): 19 pass / 0 fail / 0 skip.
  • npm run test:generated: passes.
  • Extracted ZIP outside the repository: package smoke passes and all six public comparison cases pass.
  • Two canonical ZIP builds are byte-identical; SHA-256 bfc336f3a451c5f5d6341af6f3d7cb0ebb4e2ba897c4f681a03b94ec9d641334. ZIP content differs from current dev only in delta/architecture-delta.mjs and references/delivery-contract.md.
  • git diff --check 82c7e0f0: passes. Clean local worktree.

These checks ran on the final combined source before the merge commit; the commit contains that exact tested tree. No new browser/perceptual acceptance is claimed for this presentation-classification change. Final-head remote CI still needs to run after publication; the previous PR head's green CI remains evidence at its original SHA.

PR improvement check: retain the existing outcome-based CLI regressions rather than add another implementation-mirroring test. They assert changed visible wording, correct comparison classifications, independent entity/provenance counts, source digests, matching embedded/sidecar receipts and equal rendered SVG for empty/omitted catalogs. The original failure was independently reproduced on current dev. No worthwhile abstraction or broader test rewrite is needed for the two-entry projection fix.

Generated artifacts

Only archify.zip regenerated. Viewer/template/example inputs are unchanged, so Gallery and Viewer regeneration are unnecessary; generated freshness checks pass. No installation, release or registry publication performed.

Related contribution

#656 independently addresses the same #600 projection omission. Its current embedded-receipt assertion is covered by this continuing PR's CLI regression. Thanks to @Totopo27 for that contribution. The maintainer has selected #603 for consolidation; #656 remains open until the retained coverage and attribution are acknowledged through the normal review process. This does not claim either fix has shipped.

Additional AI assistance: Codex (gpt-6.1-sol) independently reproduced the current-dev failure, reviewed the projection and regression coverage, preserved contributor history during integration, rebuilt the canonical archive and ran the recorded checks. No new human review is claimed.

Final hosted verification

At commit f4e5b81244676f461aadbe10ed2b95bac4e0c966, hosted CI completed. The only product-test failure is the existing README signal-flow motion-proof drift, followed by the dependent Node 22 aggregate check. Other applicable jobs passed. This head is not CI-green; existing #1087 owns that baseline proof refresh.

Current-dev licensing integration

Merged exact dev 3f95f0349c8276db71509ca239461b6fe9d00f9f into this contributor branch without rewriting history. Current head: c5575ca37c4ade6b1b36bb0fe429f78881cb506d. The two presentation-projection entries for locale/nonempty translations coexist with the current softwareNoticesHtml import and head notices. No source conflict occurred; the archive alone was rebuilt from combined sources. Apache-2.0 LICENSE, historical LICENSE-MIT, NOTICE, and the current nonvisual HTML/SVG software-notice implementation are preserved.

Focused verification on official Node 22.23.3 / bundled zlib 1.3.1-e00f703: translation/projection regression file and exact authoritative Checkout reproducibility passed. The current Delta notice source and all legal files remain intact; existing independent source/provenance behavior evidence is reused at its original revision. The committed canonical ZIP matches two fresh byte-identical builds, and extracted package smoke passed with all three legal files byte-matching the combined source. git diff --check passed. Existing prior-head evidence is reused only at its original SHA; required new-head hosted CI remains pending and is not reported as passed here. No live installation, approval, GitHub merge, or release action was performed.

📝 Summary

Reviewed base 0f47192ebed64ce47d7e0a6d66f3b92a881ca3e3 and checked head c5575ca37c4ade6b1b36bb0fe429f78881cb506d. The comparison fix classifies nonempty meta.translations changes as presentation changes, while treating reordered keys and empty versus omitted catalogs as equivalent. Entity and provenance classifications remain independent. Delta HTML and exported SVGs also include software notices. The delivery contract clarifies empty-catalog and output-path behavior.

The author reports focused tests and packaging checks at earlier revisions; these do not establish results for this checked head. The author-reported CI failure at f4c7… is not CI evidence for this checked head. CI status at the checked head is unavailable. No browser or perceptual acceptance is claimed.

Architecture Delta now compares nonempty meta.translations catalogs when it classifies presentation changes. Translation additions, removals, and edits affect presentationChanged; key order and empty-versus-omitted catalogs do not. Tests check entity and provenance classifications, source hashes, receipt consistency, and rendered output. The delivery contract and changelog document this behavior.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The comparison change affects classification of authored architecture input and its receipts; the reviewed comparison path does not add a rendering, execution, or privileged sink.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Comparison retains its existing shape checks, shared-component requirement, repository-identity check, and distinction between authored and revision-pinned proof.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The identity check keeps development package metadata distinct from the stable update record, reducing the chance that repository release metadata accidentally advertises a development version as stable.

Explanation

The PR addresses one focused user-visible defect: Architecture compare omitted authored non-empty meta.translations from presentation classification. The description provides the concrete reproduction and intended outcome, links issue #600, states compatibility behavior for key order and empty/omitted catalogs, and records failure behavior and validation evidence. The implementation is scoped to the projection, delivery-contract documentation, changelog, focused regression tests, and the generated package. No migration is required because the schema is unchanged; release and browser/perceptual work are explicitly identified as not applicable or not claimed.

Full details: Validation Evidence

Explanation

Validation remains unpinned to the reviewed head. The reviewed range is base 3f95f03 and head c5575ca. The reported validation and non-green hosted run are pinned to f4e5b81, not c5575ca. Direct inspection shows the later merge changes archify/delta/architecture-delta.mjs and archify.zip; the current archive matches the current source, but no focused, core, generated, or package execution result covers c5575ca. The focused test itself provides good six-case coverage, and browser or perceptual review is not required for this classification change.

Resolution

Rerun the focused translation suite, core smoke, generated checks, package smoke, and canonical ZIP reproducibility check at reviewed head c5575ca. Report each result with that SHA. Reuse f4e5b81 results only with an explicit rationale for the later software-notices and archive changes.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Treat empty meta.translations as omitted in the presentation projection.

An empty translation object is valid but contains no translation entries. The renderer treats it like an omitted catalog. The projection compares {} with undefined, so summary.presentationChanged becomes true for an empty-to-omitted change.

Updated to 6c744b23 on current dev 0bd659b8; the original PR history is preserved and conflicts are resolved. The diff remains five translation-fix files, with no old release-identity dependency.

The defect remains reproducible on current dev (three changed-translation cases fail; key reordering passes). I also addressed the historical empty-catalog review finding: the renderer's locale resolution treats empty and omitted catalogs identically, and the new public CLI regressions reproduced the false presentation change in both directions. The fix now reports no presentation change, verifies identical rendered SVG, and preserves the distinct authored-source digests.

The final candidate passes 52 focused Delta tests, 18 core smoke tests, and all six extracted-ZIP comparison cases. Two canonical ZIP builds match. The description has current scope and evidence; final-head CI completed successfully: https://github.com/tt-a1i/archify/actions/runs/38666490633 (all applicable jobs passed; only conditional deployments skipped). Earlier-head CI is not claimed as final-head coverage. CodeRabbit source coverage now names 6c744b23; its Validation Evidence warning read the earlier description for 0f47192e. The 52/18/6 results above were all rerun after the empty-catalog fix on the final source.
