feat: support registered workflows through the Harbor bridge - #533
Allow Harbor's Fabric SDK bridge to select registered workflows such as nvidia.nooa.coding-agent, instead of requiring every adapter to expose a standalone task route. This uses the existing workflow configuration and factory contract.
I confirm this contribution is my own work, or I have the right to submit it under this project's license.
I searched existing issues and open pull requests, and this does not duplicate existing work.
Details
Add explicit workflow target/settings options and optional canonical host target metadata. Validate the adapter/target binding and target settings without loading the harness SDK, importing its factory, or reading task discovery paths on the host.
Bind the existing admission fingerprint to both normalized adapter and target descriptors for workflows. Reject changed factory/schema metadata before task-side runtime startup. Standalone fingerprints remain unchanged.
Preserve the existing task discovery, skill/MCP admission, environment forwarding, lifecycle, and result/accounting transport contracts.
Update SDK docs, generated references, Harbor guidance, and the consumer integration skill. Fabric stays on release/0.6 at 0.6.0; no manifests or dependencies change.
No Kiro BYOM implementation is included. The separately closed#532 experiment is outside this change.
Validation
99 focused Python capability/Harbor tests pass, including an actual registered-workflow subprocess round trip and changed-factory rejection before startup.
Docs build/check passes with 12 existing warnings; generated Python references are synchronized.
Full Python suite: 3,025 passed, 135 skipped, two deprecation warnings. just build-python also passes. Two final test-only follow-ups isolate optional Relay and verify nonempty workflow settings at the actual factory. 51 targeted adapter/E2E tests pass after these changes; production sources are unchanged.
One fresh B200 native Harbor trial passed integration, task reward 0, using registered nvidia.nooa.coding-agent through nvidia.fabric.nooa. Qualification commit 5d01320e8a933619efb9ba9984c97125de4863b6 combines test: add single-task Harbor qualification skill #516/fix: restore Harbor adapter execution and usage reporting #522 with this feature; gate tooling is 203fb17bf7e23058655f35316359a249e1b02db5. Native Harbor is 0.24.1.dev202610250408, against the unchanged Nemotron service. All 18 catalog rows remain present; only NOOA was attempted once.
Workflow selection, combined fingerprint, installed descriptor/factory provenance, noneditable packages, invocation, result/accounting transport, verifier completion and cleanup pass. Complete usage is unknown and reaches Harbor unchanged. Reward zero and missing complete usage are informational under the integration criterion.
Independently verified 57 retained evidence hashes, 14 resource samples, original TB2 kv-store-grpc task/verifier at 2fd12b88aafdd04a52c298e3940bcb189f9766d6, original 1 CPU / 2 GiB, no owned container/network leftovers, and unchanged model service. Adapter sources match test: add single-task Harbor qualification skill #516/fix: restore Harbor adapter execution and usage reporting #522 exactly; new core/admission code matches this PR. Subsequent PR changes affect only regression tests and their fixture; production equivalence is explicitly verified.
206 combined focused tests pass, including all 107 qualification tests with the new workflow support. MCP, skills, Relay/ATIF, and subagent execution remain separately untested by this single live task.
Review follow-up 428e1f2c fixes the Python 3.14 CI failure by matching the NOOA package's supported Python 3.12–3.13 range for its subprocess execution regression. Metadata-only Harbor/workflow coverage still runs on Python 3.14. The fixture now writes a shutdown marker, which the round-trip test asserts; its nonempty settings assertion is retained. 149 focused tests pass on Python 3.13; 98 pass with 1 expected NOOA execution skip on Python 3.14. A fresh full just --set no_uv true test-python run passes: 3,025 passed, 135 skipped, two existing deprecation warnings. Product code is unchanged from the B200-tested feature commit.
Final CI at 428e1f2c: 40 checks passed, 7 expected skips, no pending checks. All Python 3.11–3.14 platform jobs, CodeRabbit, Rust/Node checks, docs, pre-commit, and all four wheel builds pass. Two pre-commit attempts hit Network is unreachable during license-inventory downloads, and one Windows wheel upload hit CreateArtifact: ETIMEDOUT; targeted retries passed without further code changes. Failed-attempt evidence is retained. The only remaining failed check is the NVSkills wrapper for missing external validation evidence, which the author explicitly requested excluding from this task's acceptance. Repository protections remain unchanged. No approval or merge has been posted.
A separate review found no correctness blockers in the metadata/fingerprint/host-task boundary.
Where should the reviewer start?
Start with capabilities.py and core inspect_adapter_config for metadata-only admission and combined fingerprints, then integrations/harbor/fabric_agent.py for the public options. test_adapter_capabilities.py and test_harbor_runner.py cover validation, compatibility, transport, and drift rejection.
Related Issues: (use one of the action keywords Closes / Fixes / Resolves / Relates to)
Harbor integrations can select registered workflow targets and provide workflow settings separately from adapter settings.
Adapter inspection accepts optional target metadata. Workflow inspection validates the adapter and target pairing and includes both descriptors in the profile fingerprint.
Adapter-only inspection remains available without workflow metadata or a configured harness.
Bug Fixes
Invalid or incomplete workflow selections and changed target metadata are rejected before workflow startup.
Documentation
Updated Harbor and Python API guidance to cover registered workflows, target metadata, settings, and admission checks.

The change adds workflow target metadata to adapter inspection and capability fingerprints. Harbor configuration accepts workflow targets and settings, resolves target descriptors for admission, and checks descriptors before execution.
Native adapter inspection accepts an optional target descriptor, validates its workflow binding and supported type, and returns the normalized descriptor. The Python binding forwards the optional descriptor path.
Workflow capability inspection and fingerprints sdk/python/nemo-fabric-runtime/src/nemo_fabric/capabilities.py, tests/python/test_adapter_capabilities.py, docs/reference/api/python-library-reference/*, docs/sdk/python.mdx, skills/nemo-fabric-integrate/SKILL.md
Capability inspection validates workflow metadata and fingerprints normalized adapter and target descriptors. Tests cover validation, standalone fingerprint compatibility, and descriptor drift. Reference and integration guidance describe the metadata requirements.
Harbor workflow configuration and execution sdk/python/nemo-fabric-runtime/src/nemo_fabric/integrations/harbor/fabric_agent.py, tests/integrations/test_harbor_runner.py, tests/fixtures/nooa/src/fabric_nooa_test_target.py, sdk/python/nemo-fabric-runtime/src/nemo_fabric/integrations/harbor/README.md, docs/integrations/consumer/harbor.mdx
Harbor options accept workflow targets and settings, resolve host target metadata, and pass workflow configuration to inspection. Tests and documentation cover admission, descriptor verification, and task execution.

496-501: 🎯 Functional Correctness
No change is required for the catalog lookup.
The Harbor extra pins nemo-fabric-adapter-catalog == 0.6.0, and that release defines get_target_descriptor with KeyError semantics for unknown IDs. The missing-name and alternate-exception paths are not applicable to the pinned catalog.
The Nooa adapter calls the registered target's asynchronous close() during runtime shutdown. The fixture's EchoInteractiveAgent.close() does not record that call, and the test only checks status and output. Add a process-visible close marker in the fixture and assert the marker after the successful run.

This test still passes workflow_settings={}. The fixture factory ignores its context, so the test can pass even if Harbor drops or changes settings before factory construction. Use a schema-valid setting such as {"prefix": "test"} and make the fixture output depend on it. This duplicates the previous review comment. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
