sleep N; <check> calls in a September 2026 interactive session: one waiting for CI runs to register after a push, one waiting for a remote VACUUM to finish. The harness blocked both, and each was redone as a backgrounded until-loop. F-8 in docs/friction-log.md names persistence after Aug 2026 as the trigger for a scripts/wait-for-ci.sh wrapper. The second case was not CI, so a general wait-until <check-command> helper would cover both.
