Problem and value

AI assistance and accountability

Stability impact

  • Impact class and changed behavior/shared callers: Text plus a new maintainer workflow. No renderer, schema, or Skill behavior changes. The install text now names github-copilot beside the existing switcher targets, matching docs/start.html.
  • Existing behavior preserved / intended compatibility changes / failure behavior: The default npx skills add tt-a1i/archify -g command and the exact Cursor command stay. The publisher refuses main and dev, fast-forwards contributors, and skips a commit when the SVG is unchanged. Bots (type: Bot, [bot] logins, and named accounts such as claude) are left off the wall.

Tests run

Comparison base: main. Candidate: df27f07b5bae9a6649ba2dd59d1af0f303afab24.

  • node --test test/llms-txt.test.mjs test/contributors-svg.test.mjs test/cursor-onboarding.test.mjs passed (10 tests) on this branch after setting Version: 3.2.0.
  • On the dev sibling, the same tests passed against v3.2.1-dev.1. A live GitHub API run wrote a 1000px SVG for 86 human contributors with inline base64 avatars. Headless Chrome showed circular avatars and readable names. The Contributors workflow has not been dispatched, so the README image stays empty until the first run publishes the contributors branch.

PR improvement check: no Skill or renderer behavior to simplify. Tests cover bot exclusion, the 8-by-72 grid, inline images, light/dark name colors, pagination host refusal, and linear publish. They do not snapshot pixel positions.

Visual evidence

  • Evidence provided: local Chrome screenshot of a generated SVG top (not uploaded; the SVG is produced by the workflow, not stored on main).
  • Comparison conditions: light color scheme, 1100×720 viewport, file URL of the generated SVG.
  • Automated or browser checks: headless Chrome screenshot only. Not a product page.
  • Perceptual visual review: passed for the generated sample (circular masks, names under avatars). Dark-mode media query was checked in the SVG source, not in a dark browser screenshot.

Generated artifacts

contributors.svg is generated by the workflow onto the contributors branch. It is not part of this commit. docs/llms.txt is a copy of the root brief so the site stager can publish it.

Release follow-up

No release. The Monday schedule runs only after this workflow is on the default branch. Until then, publish the wall with a manual run of the Contributors workflow. Do not merge this PR and #1080 both without reconciling them; they carry the same feature for the two bases.

Review in Change Stack →

📝 Summary

Reviewed base 25cf370 and head df27f07. The changes add an agent installation brief, localized Quick Start guidance, and a workflow that publishes a generated contributors SVG to a separate branch. They do not change renderer, schema, or Skill behavior. The author reports 10 targeted tests passed at the PR revision after setting the version to 3.2.0; this is author-reported validation, not a result observed at the checked head. At df27f07, observed CI has three completed successes and 13 checks in progress; CodeRabbit is pending. No browser or perceptual acceptance is established. The contributors image remains absent until the publishing workflow runs.

The pull request adds agent-oriented installation instructions to llms.txt and five localized READMEs. It also adds a contributor SVG generator, a script and scheduled or manually triggered workflow to publish the SVG to a dedicated branch, and contributor graphics in the localized READMEs.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to df27f

The new agent install instructions can overwrite an existing unmanaged archify directory without reporting a conflict. The README Quick Start blocks also run the single-agent and multi-agent commands together, installing to more agents than the reader chose. Fix both before merging. The contributors wall changes are low risk.

Full details: Contribution Scope

Explanation

The PR combines two independent delivery slices: agent-assisted installation (#1077) and an automated contributors wall (#1078). The diff adds separate installation contracts, contributor-generation code, publishing automation, and tests. The description covers compatibility and failure behavior, and both slices have linked issues, but it does not record a maintainer decision that these unrelated features should be combined.

Resolution

Split the changes into separate PRs for #1077 and #1078, or record maintainer agreement that they form one delivery slice and explain the shared scope in the PR description.

Full details: Validation Evidence

Explanation

Evidence is partial for evaluated head df27f07b5bae9a6649ba2dd59d1af0f303afab24 against base 25cf37080fc8b1dbe758a4efc3935b55f3327083. The author-reported 10-test command is consistent with the source: 2 llms-txt tests, 6 contributor tests, and 2 existing Cursor tests. Static inspection also confirms the version, matching llms.txt copies, workflow configuration, and focused unit-test coverage for rendering, filtering, pagination, avatars, and linear publishing. However, the evidence does not cover material changed behavior. README.md:238-241 and all localized copies put the single-agent and five-agent commands in one Bash block, so both run when pasted; the test only checks that both strings exist. The publisher tests do not cover invalid branch names, traversal, missing files, or non-SVG files, although the script adds those guards. The install brief says to preserve unmanaged destinations and to stop only if the installer reports a conflict (llms.txt:24), while the base AGENTS.md:20 requires checking each destination before replacement; no test or reproducible install evidence supports this safety claim. The contributor SVG is intentionally absent from the PR and the workflow was not dispatched. The reported live API generation and Chrome review are author reports, not observed artifact evidence, so README output freshness and the published SVG remain unverified.

Resolution

Separate the single-agent and multi-agent commands with an explicit or and add assertions for that structure in all five README checks. Add focused negative tests for every publisher guard. Update llms.txt, docs/llms.txt, and README install guidance to check each destination before --copy and request authorization before replacement. A maintainer should then run the generator/workflow, retain the generated SVG, and record comparable light/dark browser evidence for the published README artifact.

Do not send the GitHub token to the avatar host, and validate redirects before following them.

githubHeaders(token, ...) adds Authorization: Bearer <token> to the avatar request. The avatar URLs are public, so the token is not needed. The workflow token has contents: write, so it should not leave the API request path without a reason.

redirect: 'follow' also follows redirects before Line 155 checks the final host. The host check therefore runs only after the request to the redirect target has completed. Node's fetch should strip Authorization on cross-origin redirects, so the practical risk is low. Removing the header closes the gap without relying on that behavior.

Call githubHeaders('', 'application/octet-stream') for avatars. Alternatively, build a header object that omits Authorization.

Add a test for the avatar guards. The current test covers only the happy path.

The test name claims avatars are inlined "only from GitHub image responses". The test never exercises a rejection path. These guards have no coverage:

  • a non-GitHub avatar_url host in avatarRequestUrl
  • a redirected final host check at Line 156 of the generator
  • the MAX_AVATAR_BYTES and empty-body limits
  • a non-image body with a misleading content-type

Each guard can be tested with a mocked fetchImpl and no network access. For the redirect case, return a Response with an object that has a non-GitHub url. Use Object.defineProperty(response, 'url', ...).

A regression in any guard would let the publisher write arbitrary bytes or host data into a file that the README serves.

Stop unless the listing contains exactly one skill named `archify`.

2. Install that skill for the confirmed agent. `--copy` copies files instead of symlinking. Leave unmanaged files in place. If the installer reports a conflict with existing unmanaged files, stop and tell the user; do not delete them. `--yes` only skips prompts for the scope they already confirmed.

Check destination conflicts before running the copy install.

If an unmanaged archify directory already exists at a selected destination, the documented --copy command removes that directory before copying the Skill. The installer does not stop to report the conflict, so this instruction can erase user files. Check every selected destination before installation. Stop and request explicit authorization for each replacement. Apply the same safeguard to docs/llms.txt and the README commands. The declared Skills CLI version and its current source both use this removal behavior. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

As per path instructions, “Apply the base branch's rules when evaluating proposed policy changes.” The base installation rule requires preserving unmanaged destinations. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Separate the single-agent and multi-agent commands.

If a reader pastes this bash block, the shell runs both commands. A reader choosing the Cursor example therefore also installs to four additional agents without another prompt. Put the multi-agent command in a separate fenced block, with an “or” between the examples. Make the same change in the four localized READMEs. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Closing this duplicate main-target PR after #1080 was integrated into dev through #1102 at 10b4dd5. #1080 retains the original contributor history and includes the scoped installation and avatar-request safety corrections missing from this duplicate. The completed implementation is tracked in #1077/#1078. Stable promotion should bring the validated dev work forward through the normal release process; no contributors-wall publication or main/site deployment is claimed here.
