Copilot review overview
🔵 Needs a closer look
The bulk of the change is a 4,752-key machine-drafted Japanese dictionary whose translation quality and fluency require native-speaker human review that automated checks cannot substitute for.

What changed in this PR
This PR adds Japanese (ja / 日本語) as a fully supported UI locale for the shared React frontend used by desktop, web, and mobile. It is an additive, frontend-only change: a new 4,752-key Japanese dictionary plus the locale-registration wiring, automatic browser-language detection, CI/bundle checks, tests, and documentation. No Core/Rust, RPC, or auth surfaces are touched.
Changes:
- Register
jaacross the locale registry (Localeunion,I18nContextmap,LanguageSelectpicker,PREFIX_TO_LOCALEdetection) and add theapp/src/lib/i18n/ja.tsdictionary (key-parity and placeholder-parity withen.tsverified: 4,752 keys, 0 missing/extra/duplicate, 0 placeholder mismatches). - Extend i18n tooling for Japanese: native-script regex in
i18n-find-english.ts,ALL_LOCALESini18n-coverage.ts, and production-bundle markers (native + escaped-unicode) inverify-i18n-bundle.mjs. - Add focused tests (picker, locale detection, I18n fallback, placeholder parity, mascot-dismiss path) and update coverage matrix + manual smoke docs.

Include halfwidth Katakana in Japanese detection
The Japanese native-script regex does not include the halfwidth Katakana block (U+FF66–U+FF9F). A valid Japanese value such as カタカナ contains no character matched by this expression and will be classified as English by the no-native-script check, producing a false positive in the work list. Add the halfwidth Katakana range to cover this valid Japanese writing form.

Fixed in cf2f93e. Added U+FF66–U+FF9F to the Japanese native-script regex. Verified カタカナ, mixed API キー, both halfwidth range endpoints, and existing hiragana/fullwidth Katakana/kanji match; English and the adjacent U+FF65/U+FFA0 characters do not. The Japanese English-leftover audit reports zero unexpected English. Formatting, lint, TypeScript and token pre-push checks passed.

Run 37536687903 narrowed the remaining failure to two Japanese credit labels: static checks, Rust lint/gates, and full Rust coverage (9,227 test passes across 80 result summaries) succeeded; frontend coverage had 737 passing files and two failures in the Japanese coverage suite. The labels added in cd8ccb9 were subsequently removed in 1ff9059 while the branch still lacked their canonical English keys. CI merged the branch with a07d3cc, which includes those English keys, and reported them missing again. I have now merged that exact CI base into the branch (78790d7) and restored the Japanese labels (3092dbb). The branch itself and CI therefore agree on all 4,595 keys. Please retain these labels: they now have canonical English counterparts in this branch. Fresh local validation: zero missing/extra Japanese keys, zero unexpected English leftovers, all 74 focused locale tests pass, and the complete pre-push formatting/lint/TypeScript/Core-CLI-TinyHumans-Tauri Clippy/token checks pass. Waiting for the new hosted run and final coverage gate; the previous green Rust run is historical evidence, not a claim that the new run is complete. |

Head 3092dbb has now passed hosted CI and the final gate: https://github.com/tinyhumansai/openhuman/actions/runs/37543248284 . Frontend: 8,745 passed / 1 skipped. Rust core coverage: 9,230 passes across 80 result summaries, zero failures. Static checks, frontend checks and Rust lint/gates also passed. Diff coverage passed at 100% for one measured line only; that is not exhaustive changed-line coverage. Tiny Sweeper reports zero active actionable findings for this head. The description now reflects these current results and distinguishes older browser/native validation. The credit-label mismatch is resolved with the English baseline included in the branch. Stopping the automatic follow-up as requested; the PR remains open and has not been merged. |

Reference test files that exist in the repository
The new row marks Japanese locale coverage as complete and lists multiple test files, but searches of the reviewed tree found none of these paths, including app/test/playwright/specs/japanese-locale.spec.ts, app/test/e2e/specs/japanese-locale.browser.ts, and the listed Vitest files. As written, the matrix claims coverage that cannot be run or verified from this commit. Add the referenced tests, or update the row to point to the actual existing paths and remove unsupported coverage claims.

The wrapper imports the shared suite. Running Playwright's actual --list discovery finds all four Japanese cases, and the Vitest paths also exist and execute. The hosted frontend job passed 8,745 tests at this head. Please reconcile against the full Git tree: the review's documented retrieval failure must not turn files absent from an incremental diff into missing-file findings.

Drive the Japanese Composio direct-only panel in an E2E spec
This adds only a mocked component unit test. The repository's testing rule requires frontend flows to have mocked browser/desktop E2E coverage, and this test does not exercise the actual embedded panel, locale selection, or rendered flow in the application shell. Add an E2E spec using the shared helpers that opens the relevant panel in a local session and asserts the Japanese direct-only experience.
Additional security observation
Drive the Japanese Composio flow in an E2E spec
[RULE] missing-e2e-coverage
This adds only a colocated Vitest unit test. It does not exercise the actual browser/desktop flow that selects Japanese, renders the local-session direct-only Composio panel, and verifies the user-visible result. The repository rules require frontend flows to have mocked browser/desktop E2E coverage under app/test/e2e/specs/; add that coverage rather than relying on the provider and Redux state being set up correctly in a unit test.

This browser flow already exists in the reviewed head:
. It establishes a local session through auth_store_session, selects Japanese through browserElements, navigates to the real Composio panel and asserts the Japanese direct-only explanation. The Playwright wrapper discovers this fourth case. The separate persistence-race finding was valid and is fixed in 52bf49d. No duplicate E2E case is needed. Source existence/discovery is confirmed; I am not claiming a fresh full browser/Core execution in this reply. There was a problem hiding this comment.

Wait for Japanese locale persistence before navigating
The language selector can update the rendered UI before redux-persist has written the locale. Navigating immediately can reload the page with the previous locale, making the Composio assertion flaky and failing to verify the Japanese local-session flow reliably. Wait for the persisted value before changing routes.

Fixed in 52bf49d: the Composio case now polls persistedBrowserLocale(page) until it equals 'ja' before page.goto. It uses the same shared persisted-state reader and wait pattern as the other locale cases. The four browser tests are discoverable; 35 surrounding unit tests and all pre-push checks pass. A fresh full browser/Core E2E execution is not claimed.

Keep unsupported locales out of the default locale list
ja is not a member of the Locale union, so this entry makes the LocaleOption[] declaration fail TypeScript checking. Remove this option or add complete Japanese locale support, including the Locale type and translations, before registering it here.

Follow-up on the red checks after the successful CI gate:
Please reconcile the lane results against the full tree. The e2e lane already recognizes the four-case suite while critique/security claim it is absent. The hub still reports code-retrieval and Cortex recall failures. The new CI and each individual Tiny Sweeper lane remain under observation; a green aggregate review status alone will not be treated as all checks passing. |

tinysweeper found nothing blocking, but could not review everything, so this is not an approval: app/src/lib/i18n/ja.ts.

Reference an existing Playwright test path
This spec is under app/test/e2e/specs, but the Playwright configuration's testDir is ./test/playwright/specs. The standard Playwright run will therefore not discover these tests, allowing the new locale coverage to silently pass without executing. Move the spec under the configured directory or register this directory in the appropriate Playwright configuration.

The suite is already registered through the tracked Playwright entry point inside testDir: app/test/playwright/specs/japanese-locale.spec.ts:2, which imports ../../e2e/specs/japanese-locale.browser. Importing the shared module registers its test declarations with Playwright.
I rechecked discovery at HEAD 3841ca6 with:
node app/node_modules/@playwright/test/cli.js test --config app/playwright.config.ts --list japanese-locale.spec.ts
Result: Total: 4 tests in 1 file, covering settings/reload, fresh-browser locale detection, memory/model attribution, and the local Composio explanation (shared-suite lines 42, 61, 86, 157). This confirms discovery, not completion of a browser E2E run. Moving the shared implementation is unnecessary; please include the existing entry-point import when evaluating test discovery.

[RULE] test-discovery ·

This duplicates the discovery finding above. The tracked Playwright entry point inside testDir imports this shared suite. A fresh --list run using app/playwright.config.ts at this exact HEAD discovers all 4 cases. Evidence and the command are in the companion thread. No test relocation or config change is required for discovery; actual browser execution remains a separate validation.
|
Final validation for HEAD I checked the latest check run for each name at this exact HEAD: all individual TinySweeper lanes are completed with success or neutral; none are failed or pending. The two remaining security findings duplicate the test-discovery claim. Both have evidence-backed replies: the existing wrapper inside Playwright's testDir imports the shared suite, and a fresh This confirms the hosted CI and discovery checks; it does not claim a new browser/Core E2E execution on this HEAD. Pausing the periodic CI follow-up now. The PR remains open and unmerged. |

Summary
Problem
Japanese was unavailable in the UI. After merging the current upstream Memory changes, the full Core coverage lane also exposed stale Memory fixtures, a missing Node mock dependency, invalid vision-delegation fixtures, a workspace-path mismatch, a test-stack overflow and agent tool/cap regressions.
Solution
The locale uses the existing frontend translation system. CI follow-ups install pinned pnpm dependencies in the independent Rust coverage job, align Memory RPC expectations while explicitly rejecting retired methods, provide an inline PNG to vision fixtures and check Composio persistence in the resolved workspace.
The test-only agent thread uses CI's 64 MiB stack. Rust layout size pins are tightened after helper reuse, and the app dependency lock is aligned with upstream's embedded Memory facade. Coverage now puts the selected Rust toolchain binaries before rustup proxies on PATH, so confined cargo tests work when the container installs Rust outside HOME without changing sandbox permissions. The agent factory now calls the existing iteration-cap resolver so explicit overrides are honored. Permanent host tools remain visible during refresh and enter the session definition's extra scope, fixing their omission from the provider wire on named tool scopes. Original request-count, persistence and attached-tool assertions are retained.
Validation
Hosted CI passed on head
3092dbb9108296d5c806ce4ab7b6450dcadfab06, including the final gate:Earlier browser/Core E2E and native smoke verified Japanese selection, reload/relaunch persistence and a real-model chat. Those runs predate subsequent upstream integrations. This hosted run does not establish a fresh full desktop E2E, Tauri coverage or configured Memory backend smoke.
Submission Checklist
Impact
Desktop/Web UI gains Japanese. The Core follow-up changes explicit iteration-override precedence and permanent host-tool visibility. Authentication and provider routing are unchanged. iOS/Android native smoke and a successful configured Memory backend remain unverified.
