I'm Head of Engineering at tapestry in Melbourne.
I lead the engineering team across product, platform, infrastructure and data. I still stay close to the code, especially when the work involves architecture, tricky production problems or turning a useful prototype into something people can rely on.
I like making complicated systems simpler to build, run and understand.
- Leading engineering at tapestry, where I've worked since 2019 as a Senior Software Engineer, Software Architect and now Head of Engineering
- Building and improving data-heavy products, internal platforms and AI + ML features
- Helping teams make sensible architecture choices without adding process for the sake of it
- Writing about engineering and the things I'm learning at reganlawton.dev
Craft CMS has been a big part of my development work in the early years. I maintain a small collection of open-source plugins under wrav, including:
- oEmbed - fetches media information from services such as YouTube and other websites using the oEmbed protocol, used by over 7k+ sites
- Related - adds quick access to related entries in the Craft control panel, giving you a better understanding of your content
- SimpleSharing - simple social sharing tools for Craft CMS, one click links to share on Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
- Languages: Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, PHP, Java, Go, C#
- Python: FastAPI, Celery, pandas, Jupyter Notebooks
- Web: React, Next.js, Node.js, Laravel, Craft CMS, GraphQL, Tailwind CSS
- Data: PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Redis, Kafka, dbt, Airflow, Spark
- Infrastructure: AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux
These days I mostly work in Python, but the tools change with the problem or project.
