Pi agent default provider/model ignored via remote docker #398

Closed

Description

@daviddewinter

When I switched from my local host as provider to remote docker as provider, the Pi agent no longer defaults to my predefined provider and model (and instead initialises an inferior model).

Both the local machine, as well as the remote docker machine, have the same output for the settings.json:

$ cat ~/.pi/agent/settings.json
{
  "lastChangelogVersion": "0.99.1",
  "defaultProvider": "openrouter",
  "defaultModel": "openai/gpt-6-luna"
}

I can also see when creating a new box on remote docker that it lists "installing pi (missing on this image)", while that doesn't appear to be the case when creating the box locally (due to caching?). I have been reading through the docs, trying various methods (e.g. environment variables), but none of them seem to work for solving this. Any suggestions more than welcome, thanks in advance!

    I created a new checkpoint of the remote box, and set it as the default, after manually updating the settings.json, similar to the original post, within the box itself, then new boxes do get the default provider/model set, and it no longer needs to reinstall pi as well 🙏.
