Firstly, you will need to install dependencies.
The recommended way is via uvx:
uvx --with jinja2-git cookiecutter gh:wemake-services/wemake-django-templateOr via pipx:
pipx install cookiecutter
pipx inject cookiecutter jinja2-gitOr via global pip:
pip install cookiecutter jinja2-gitThen, create a project itself:
cookiecutter gh:wemake-services/wemake-django-templateThis template includes a pre-configured monorepo setup featuring a Django backend and a React (Vite + TypeScript) frontend, fully containerized for local development.
To start the development environment:
cd <your-generated-project-name>
docker compose up --buildThis command will spin up:
- Django Backend: Available on
http://localhost:8000 - React Frontend: Available with Hot Module Replacement (HMR) on
http://localhost:5173 - PostgreSQL Database: Running isolated in the background
This template is designed for automatic execution by AI Assistants (such as Cursor, Claude, or other AI Agents). Simply copy-paste the following single-paragraph prompt to your AI, and let it autonomously handle the cloning, setup, and feature creation process:
"Please clone and generate a new project using the template
cookiecutter git@github.com:juandisay/wemake-django-template.git(fill the interactive prompts with defaults). Once generated, start the local environment usingdocker compose up --build. After the services are running, please create a full-stack 'Todo List' feature: build the model and API endpoint on the backend (Django), then build a TypeScript UI component with state management (Zustand) on the frontend (React) to fetch and manipulate the data, ensuring smooth integration between both sides."
If you use our template, please add yourself or your company in the list.
