A redundant execution.pause overwrote an existing breakpoint stop and lost the one-instruction resume exemption, causing continue to hit the same breakpoint immediately. Pause now returns the current registers without modifying a stopped machine or its control state. Active pause behavior is retained.
Validation: 41 affected tests pass under CPython and PyPy, including complete configured-machine/control equality, retained operation results, subsequent breakpoint continuation, and active step/run_until cancellation. The old handler fails both new state-preservation controls; restored source passes. Stacked on keyboard epoch PR73; final rebase and public CI are required before integration.
