Closes https://github.com/github/copilot-ecosystem/issues/1559
This pull request enhances the automation and reliability of the AI catalog workflow by adding scheduled refreshes, improving documentation, and introducing comprehensive tests for the workflow logic. The workflow now refreshes the catalog hourly to pick up changes from the GitHub MCP Registry, even if no contributor files have changed, and includes improved validation and publication logic.
Workflow automation and scheduling:
schedule) to.github/workflows/catalog.yml, so the catalog is automatically refreshed from the GitHub MCP Registry every hour, independent of repository changes. Also added a concurrency group to prevent overlapping runs.main, ensuring registry changes are published even without contributor updates.Documentation improvements:
README.mdandCONTRIBUTING.mdto clarify that the catalog is now refreshed hourly for MCP Registry changes, and to explain the behavior of scheduled and manual runs.Testing and validation:
tests/test_catalog_workflow.py) to verify the workflow triggers, concurrency, and publication logic, ensuring that catalog refresh pull requests are correctly created or updated only when needed.tests/test_generate_ai_catalog.pyto confirm that catalog refreshes are triggered by registry-only additions or version updates, and that the generated catalog remains deterministic.
