Matrix Clock Wiki

This is a substantial upgrade to the original matrix clock project that required Home Assistant/MQTT for management. This version is standalone and has its own web interface for managing all settings and features.

Note: This firmware is specifically designed to work with WS2812b LEDs in a 25x16 matrix layout. Use of other LEDs or matrix dimensions WILL require substantial modifications to the firmware, which will not be included in this repository.

PLUS OPTIONAL WLED WITH AUTO-SWITCHING!!!

Some key features of the project:

  • Completely customizable via web app, including colors, layout, mode switching, etc.
  • Optional time-syncing to NTP server
  • Time display in 12-hour, 24-hour or binary clock modes
  • Display indoor temperature, outdoor temperature or both in either °F or °C
  • Customizable team names for scoreboard mode
  • Multiple text effects (flash, fade-in, rainbow, etc.)
  • Responsive app so settings can be accessed from desktop browser, tablet or phone
  • API for optional integration/automations via third party system (e.g. Home Assistant)
  • The standard build also includes the following:
    • Onboard temperature sensor for indoor temp (with correction value)
    • Three push buttons for common controls (mode, advance scores, start/stop time, etc.)
    • Rotary encoder for brightness and on/off setting
    • Buzzer for countdown timer or other use (can be toggled off)
    • Relay for auto-switching between clock and optional WLED controller

This wiki only deals with the firmware, including installation, configuration and use of the various settings and options. It is written much like a user guide for the firmware. For first time installations, it is recommended that you follow the wiki articles in order at least through the first six sections (thru section "06 - Using the Web Settings").

For build details, including parts list, wiring diagrams and assembly of the matrix, please see the following:
