Overview

With tools.enabled omitted, the Kilo Code adapter keeps Kilo Code's default bash rule, which asks for approval before any command outside Kilo's read-only allowlist. The adapter is non-interactive, so nothing answers and the turn waits until the prompt deadline. Allow bash when tools.enabled is omitted. An explicit tools.enabled or tools.blocked list behaves as before.

  • I confirm this contribution is my own work, or I have the right to submit it under this project's license.
  • I searched existing issues and open pull requests, and this does not duplicate existing work.

Details

  • Set bash to allow in the generated permission rules when tools.enabled is omitted.
  • Update the omitted-tools permission test.
  • Note the shell behavior in the adapter README and the Kilo Code integration guide.

Validation

  • Live run with Kilo Code CLI 7.7.12 and a self-hosted DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash endpoint, tools.enabled omitted, a prompt that runs python3 -c 'print(6 * 7)': on main, Kilo Code lists a pending bash permission at 60 s and the prompt fails with kilo_prompt_timeout at the 150 s test deadline. This branch runs the command and answers 42.
  • node --test test/*.test.mjs in adapters/typescript/kilo: 16 passed.

Where should the reviewer start?

toolPermission in adapters/typescript/kilo/src/kilo-sdk.ts.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Behavior Changes
    • Shell commands are allowed when no enabled-tool list is configured, unless bash is explicitly blocked. Explicit tool settings and other restrictions remain unchanged.
  • Documentation
    • Updated Kilo integration guidance to explain the default shell-command permissions and clarify that these permissions do not sandbox shell access to workspace files.

With tools.enabled omitted, the adapter kept Kilo Code's default bash rule, which
asks before any command outside Kilo's read-only allowlist. Nothing answers in a
headless run, so the turn waited until the prompt deadline. The adapter now allows
bash in that case, as its documentation already describes it as non-interactive.

Walkthrough

When tools.enabled is omitted, the Kilo adapter now allows bash commands by default. The test and runtime documentation reflect this behavior. Explicit tool settings and blocked-tool overrides remain unchanged.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Add a blocked-bash case to the factory test.

The omitted-tools test checks only bash: "allow". The existing blocked-bash test supplies tools.enabled, so it does not detect a regression where tools.blocked: ["bash"] fails to override the omitted-tools default. Add a focused factory-level case that preserves the default assertion and expects bash: "deny" when only tools.blocked is supplied.
