Overview

Stack 6 of 8 → Block 6. Run the OpenClaw Code Review agent through a normal NeMo Fabric SDK consumer and the OpenShell environment provider. The consumer attaches to or prepares a sandbox, starts the task runtime, sends two invocations, stops it, and releases the environment. The existing raw/direct OpenShell CLI example remains a separate walkthrough.

This PR is now based on main after #398 and #431 merged. Its diff contains only the 13 Code Review files; #410 and #411 remain stacked on this branch.

Details

  • Package OpenClaw, its adapter, the code-review skill, and a sample repository in the task image; keep gateway credentials and egress policy in the provider profile.
  • Add the SDK consumer and OpenClaw demo entry point.
  • Extend the shared launcher with an optional gateway-configuration hook for provider-backed workloads.

Validation

  • On the rebased top branch, cargo fmt --all -- --check and just test-rust passed.
  • The full Python suite reached 2,236 passes and 108 skips. Its sole failure was the unrelated OpenCode E2E test because this new worktree lacked generated dist/cli.js; after building the locked OpenCode TypeScript adapter, that test passed on rerun.
  • The earlier local OpenShell check passed both SDK Echo ownership modes against a real gateway and sandbox. The Code Review task image built and its in-image OpenClaw plan check passed. Live NVIDIA inference for Code Review was not run.

Where should the reviewer start?

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added an OpenShell SDK demo for code review, supporting caller-managed and Fabric-managed environment lifecycles.
    • The demo configures a hosted model provider, runs review prompts, and saves a report with invocation results.
    • Added a sandbox image and policy for the SDK-based code-review example.
    • The shared OpenShell launcher now runs optional workload-specific gateway setup when provided.
  • Documentation
    • Updated OpenShell guides with setup requirements and instructions for SDK-based and direct CLI code-review examples.

Walkthrough

The changes add an OpenShell SDK code-review example with a sandbox image and policy, hosted provider setup, and a consumer that runs review prompts through the Fabric SDK. The launcher can call an optional workload gateway-configuration hook.

Changes

OpenShell SDK Code Review Example

Layer / File(s) Summary
Sandbox image and workload setup
examples/code_review_agent/Dockerfile.openshell-sdk, examples/code_review_agent/Dockerfile.openshell-sdk.dockerignore, examples/code_review_agent/openshell-provider.yaml, examples/code_review_agent/openshell-sdk-policy.yaml, examples/code_review_agent/Dockerfile.openshell, examples/code_review_agent/README.md, examples/openshell_sdk/README.md
The image combines pinned Node and OpenClaw images with the Fabric source, installs the adapter, and checks the planned adapter ID during the build. The provider and policy define sandbox permissions. The documentation distinguishes the SDK and raw/direct paths. The existing Dockerfile no longer has the runtime-limit label.
Launcher gateway configuration
examples/openshell/run-demo.sh, examples/openshell/README.md, examples/code_review_agent/demo-openshell-sdk.sh, tests/scripts/test_openshell_launcher.py
The launcher conditionally calls configure_workload_gateway after gateway startup. The workload script imports the provider profile, creates the hosted provider, and passes settings to the consumer. Documentation and tests cover the setup.
SDK consumer lifecycle
examples/code_review_agent/openshell_sdk_consumer.py, tests/python/test_code_review_openshell_sdk.py
The consumer supports caller-owned attachment and Fabric-owned preparation, invokes two prompts, and records invocation and cleanup results. Tests cover successful lifecycle paths, invocation failure, and command type hints.

Enable provider policy composition before provider setup.

OpenShell v0.1.2 does not enable providers_v2_enabled by default. The launcher therefore imports hosted without applying the provider profile's NVIDIA egress rule. Both Code Review policies define no replacement network rule, so hosted inference requests cannot reach NVIDIA and the review invocations can fail.

Add the setting before configure_workload_gateway. The raw/direct instructions use a separate gateway and also need the setting restored; changing the shared launcher alone does not fix that path.

 The example's policy has no standalone network rules; the attached provider profile supplies the NVIDIA egress rule. Import that profile, then create the `hosted` provider:

 ```sh
+openshell settings set --global --key providers_v2_enabled --value true
 openshell provider profile import --file examples/code_review_agent/openshell-provider.yaml
 openshell provider create --name hosted --type nvidia-code-review --credential OPENAI_API_KEY
11-13: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Import Any and remove the duplicate import os.
Lines 69, 76, and 148 use Any, but the module does not import it. Line 69 annotates the return of run_demo with dict[str, Any]. Line 148 annotates the environment parameter with Any. With from __future__ import annotations, the module still imports without error. However, typing.get_type_hints(run_demo) raises NameError, and linters report F821. The test at tests/python/test_code_review_openshell_sdk.py Line 171 resolves type hints only for openshell.OpenShellCodeReview._command. That test does not catch this error in the consumer module. Lines 11-12 also import os twice.
Reviewed the provider-policy suggestion. The OpenShell SDK revision pinned by this stack has removed providers_v2_enabled (its settings tests reject that key), so adding openshell settings set --global --key providers_v2_enabled would make the launcher fail. The selected provider profile is imported and used without that obsolete setting.
Ran the real Linux/OpenShell OpenClaw workflow in both ownership modes against NVIDIA inference: both caught the 41→42 bug, recalled a fresh tag on turn two, and passed sandbox lifecycle checks.
