TeleDrive v1.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 19 Sep 10:59

Fixes

This release fixes the crash reported in #41. Thanks @vitivattXD for the report.

  • Fixed the app closing the moment the Gallery screen was opened on 1.4.1. A dependency update in that release paired two versions of the Material library that disagree about one of the buttons the screen draws, so the screen went looking for something that was no longer there and the app went down with it. The Proxy screen under Settings would have closed the app the same way
  • The crash only affected 1.4.1. If you are on 1.4.0 or earlier you were never exposed to it, and nothing in your drive was at risk either way

TeleDrive v1.4.1

Fixes

App storage grew with every upload and never shrank. Thanks to @NeoMatrix90 for reporting it.

  • Fixed the app's own storage growing by the full size of every file uploaded through the picker. Files picked from a cloud provider — Google Drive, OneDrive, or anything reached through Downloads and Recents — cannot be uploaded from where they sit, so TeleDrive copies them into its own storage first. That copy was kept after the upload finished instead of dropped, so uploading 500 MB of files meant 500 MB of app data sitting there for good. It is now deleted the moment the upload lands in Telegram
  • Copies left behind by earlier versions are cleared on first launch, so the space comes back on its own. Anyone carrying hundreds of megabytes will see the app's storage fall sharply in Android settings

Files uploaded from your own device storage were never affected: those upload straight from where they are, and the originals are still only removed when you ask for it in Settings → Storage → Free up space. That figure will now read lower, because it no longer counts copies the app made for itself.

Under the hood

  • Updated Kotlin, the Android Gradle plugin, Compose, Media3, Room and Coil to current releases

What's new

Your language
TeleDrive is now translatable, with a language picker in Settings that follows your system by default. Russian is the first translation, covering the whole app including onboarding. Contributed by @Ruslik31 (#14).

Audio and subtitle tracks you can pick
A movie with several audio tracks or subtitle languages now opens a picker instead of a blind "next track" button. Every track is labeled with its language, channel layout and codec — English · 5.1 · EAC3 — subtitles get a real Off entry and a row per language, and the language you choose follows you into the next file. Tracks your device has no decoder for are still listed and marked as unsupported, so a DTS or TrueHD stream reads as a known limitation instead of a silent failure. Android and Windows both (#37).

APK icons
APK files show the app's own icon in previews, thumbnails and the gallery instead of a generic file icon. The icon is uploaded alongside the file, so it appears on your other devices too, and it is encrypted with everything else when encryption is on. Contributed by @jaival-11 (#10, #11).

In-app folder picker
Picking a folder no longer has to hand you to the system picker, with SAF still there as a fallback. Contributed by @Ruslik31 (#23).

Swipe to switch drives
Swipe the avatar on the home screen to cycle through your drives (#21).

Improved

  • The home backup card was redesigned, with a gradient and progress that animates as the backup runs
  • Refresh now discovers drives added to the account elsewhere and drops ones that no longer exist
  • A video this device has no decoder for now says so, rather than failing with nothing to read. Image formats the app cannot display say the same
  • Imports keep running when you navigate away from the screen you started them on, and report "Preparing files for upload…" while large files are staged
  • The folder list in the picker fades at its edges, so it is clear there is more to scroll

Fixed

  • Folders created on mobile did not appear on desktop, or the other way around. The desktop app now drains its publish outbox at startup instead of waiting for the next change (#26)
  • Creating a folder could leave an empty duplicate beside it. Synced folders are now created under their manifest id (#29)
  • Files restored from the trash could be pulled straight back into it when a sync landed before the restore was published (#31)
  • An interrupted backup reported its file as already in the drive, so it could never be backed up again without deleting and re-uploading it. Rows with no remote copy are no longer counted as duplicates (#32)
  • Storage channels did not agree between desktop and mobile. Drive discovery is trusted only when it accounts for the drives already known, so a partial scan can no longer prune real ones (#34)
  • A modified file was uploaded again on every pass: the re-upload left the old row pointing at the previous copy. The row is refreshed and the superseded message dropped (#15)
  • Local copy bookkeeping no longer touches a file's modified timestamp, which on its own was enough to make an untouched file look changed
  • Channel photo changes now sync on refresh instead of keeping the picture you first saw (#16)
  • Uploading a file of around 100 MB picked from Google Drive crashed the app. The copy now happens off the main thread (#22)
  • Import copies left behind by an interrupted upload are swept at startup instead of sitting in app storage forever (#24)
  • Signing in by QR code crashed the app, because opening the Telegram link had no handler wired up (#25)
  • Refresh no longer resurrects folders you permanently deleted

Thanks to @iya0, @AmitPrajapati9401, @Ruslik31, @jaival-11 and @YashasviKaliya for the reports, patches and translation.

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Aug 20:09

Fixes

This release fixes the problems reported in #9. Thanks @Ruslik31 for the detailed report and logs.

  • Fixed the backup button showing "Back up %d file" instead of the actual number
  • Fixed a file counted as "not backed up" forever while the backup button said there was nothing to do: files left marked as queued after their upload was lost (for example, deleted mid-staging) are now detected when you press the button, requeued if the file still exists, and cleaned up if nothing is left to upload
  • Fixed slowdowns and freezes on large libraries: the home screen now computes its counters in a single database query instead of six, and stops hammering the database during an active backup. Devices with tens of thousands of files should feel dramatically smoother

TeleDrive is now on Windows

One codebase, two apps. The entire app has been migrated to Compose Multiplatform, and this release ships the first Windows desktop build alongside the Android app you already have. Sign in on both and they browse the same drive.

New: Windows desktop app

  • Full TeleDrive on Windows: the same UI, storage engine, encryption and transfers as the phone
  • Installer (TeleDrive-1.3.0.msi): per-user install, no admin prompt, uninstalls from Windows Settings
  • Built-in video and audio player powered by libVLC, so anything VLC plays, TeleDrive plays, with speed, subtitles, audio tracks and fullscreen
  • Direct streaming: videos play straight from Telegram without downloading first, encrypted files included
  • Drag and drop files to upload, Ctrl+scroll to resize grids, arrow keys to move through the viewer
  • Configurable download folder, dark-aware title bar, show in file manager
  • Windows credentials sealed with DPAPI; same passphrase recovery as Android

Android improvements

  • Refresh now syncs edits and deletions made on other devices, not just new files
  • Switching gallery tabs starts at the top instead of a stale scroll position
  • Album grid zooms as small as the media grid
  • Backups queue in batches, and the parallel transfer setting applies to a backup already running
  • .nomedia no longer excludes a whole folder tree from backup
  • Proxy support for reaching Telegram, with automatic failover

Notes

  • Desktop requires 64-bit Windows 10 or newer
  • Your API credentials and passphrase work on both platforms; enter the passphrase once per device to unlock encrypted files
  • The Windows player bundles VLC libraries (LGPL), which accounts for most of the installer size

TeleDrive v1.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@Mahmud0808 Mahmud0808 released this 26 Aug 12:13

Fixed

  • The connection status no longer sticks on "Connecting" until the app is restarted. Telegram only reports connection state when it changes, and a late update from a replaced client could pin the app to a stale reading with nothing left to correct it. Updates from a superseded client are now ignored
  • The home screen no longer flashes "Connecting" every time you open it. It was announcing a placeholder before the first real reading arrived, and now stays quiet until there is something worth showing

What's new

No file size limit

Upload a 20 GB video and it is one file in the app, past whatever cap Telegram puts on a single message. Files larger than the cap are split, sent one piece at a time and rejoined on download. An interrupted upload picks up from the last completed piece instead of starting over, and encryption seals one piece at a time, so it never needs room for a second copy of the whole file.

Playback works the same as before. Video and audio start immediately rather than after a download, and seeking anywhere is instant, encrypted or not.

Back up what is left behind
Files you added by hand, or cancelled or failed on the way up, never belonged to a backup folder, so nothing picked them up. The home card now counts them and offers to back up all of them at once.

Improved

  • Uploads, caption edits and deletions queue behind one shared limiter, and a flood wait pauses all of them rather than only the request that hit it. Telegram's own retry delay is honored exactly, so large batches pace themselves instead of pushing until they are throttled
  • Transfer speed is averaged over a second and eased between readings, so the speed and time left settle instead of jumping. The row no longer reflows as those numbers change
  • The transfer notification shows progress while the queue runs
  • Confirming drives you already have no longer scans the whole account, which on a large account meant a request per chat

Fixed

  • The app no longer crashes after a root-level restore onto another device, such as Swift Backup. The Android keystore never leaves the device it was created on, so restored key material cannot be unwrapped. Keys guarding disposable data are regenerated and their stale data dropped, while the content key never is, so encrypted files stay recoverable from the passphrase key backup
  • A device in that state now shows a dialog offering to sign in again, which clears the broken session and returns to setup. Signing out no longer depends on Telegram answering, so an unusable session can always be dropped instead of leaving the app stuck on "connecting"
  • An encryption key that is present but cannot be unwrapped is treated as missing, so the app asks for the key backup rather than quietly creating a replacement that would orphan encrypted files
  • The storage channels screen can no longer spin forever. Every Telegram request now carries a deadline and drive discovery has an overall budget
  • An unfinished drive scan is no longer mistaken for an account with no drives, which could create a second empty drive while the real one sat there with files in it
  • Renaming a file or folder to the same name in different case no longer appends a number
  • The file list keeps its position when you close a video or preview, instead of jumping back to the top

Documentation

  • The README covers bringing existing files in: forward documents from a channel, group or Saved Messages into your drive and they appear after the next sync, with no re-upload at any size
  • New screenshots, restyled badges, and issue templates for bug reports and feature requests

What's new

Notes
Save text and links straight into your drive. A Markdown editor with a formatting toolbar, custom titles with a sensible fallback, and share-to-TeleDrive from any app. Markdown renders properly when you read a note back, nesting included. Links show an article preview with an image when there is one, or a plain open button when there is not. Notes are covered by encryption like every other file.

About screen
Version, source code, Telegram channel and donation links, all in Settings.

Update checks
TeleDrive now tells you when a new release is out. It checks once a day in the background and posts a notification you can dismiss with Skip this version, which stays quiet until the next release. Manual checks are available any time in About.

Improved

  • Rename, move, trash and favorite apply instantly. Telegram is updated in the background through a durable queue, so a folder rename covering hundreds of files no longer blocks the app, and a change made while offline is never silently reverted
  • Rebuilding the index now clears files deleted from the channel even when encrypted files are locked, and reports how many were removed
  • Mobile data is allowed by default, and the two network settings now read the same way and say what each one covers
  • Onboarding reports a reached channel limit instead of waiting forever
  • Renaming a drive no longer puts the TeleDrive prefix in the field

Fixed

  • Uploads that sat at 0 bytes with no progress, no error and no completion. Telegram updates were subscribed to after the message was sent, so a fast upload could finish before anything was listening and the transfer hung forever
  • Transfers stuck on "waiting" after changing the Wi-Fi only setting. The queued work kept the network rule it was scheduled with, so allowing mobile data changed nothing until app data was cleared
  • A transfer that stalls now fails with a real error and retries, instead of hanging with the notification pinned
  • Interrupted permanent deletes leaving files listed in the app after the message was already gone from Telegram
  • A storage channel deleted from Telegram is now detected, with a switch to another drive
  • Deleting your only drive is blocked instead of leaving the app with nowhere to store

@Mahmud0808 Mahmud0808 released this 21 Aug 16:40

First release.

TeleDrive backs up and browses your files using a private Telegram channel as storage. Your account, your channel, your files.

  • Automatic photo backup, works with the app closed
  • Sign in by phone or QR code
  • Optional end-to-end encryption
  • File manager, gallery, media player, PDF/text/ZIP previews

Download: take arm64-v8a unless you know you need otherwise. Use universal if unsure.

Note: you need your own Telegram API credentials, free from my.telegram.org under API development tools. If you enable encryption, the passphrase cannot be reset. Keep it safe.
