As a first option, you can run the installer.sh script on the server - if you can somehow boot a working debian on it (using the official live iso or something) As for a headless opinionated installer image - the best idea I can come up with is like this:
Or do you mean some kind of text-based interface starting on the installer? An equivalent of how the debian netinst installer works? |

I tried in a VM with a Debian live standard image running the install.sh script, but had no success. I had to install btrfs-progs and dosfstools, after that the install script seemed to run without errors, see: Terminal outputAfter completion and reboot though booting from the virtual hard disk didn't work: Any idea what the issue could be? I created the VM with OVMF/UEFI bios, as described in the readme: |

I've had an idea related to this: There will be an installer.ini file on the fat partition of the installer image. The user can edit it before booting the installer and it will support configuration of the installer (e.g. you can have it listening on public network interface if you want) and also pre-seed the actual installation with values and/or automatically starting the installation. Now I just have to find time to actually implement it :) |

Have a look at the configuration branch. The config file is now implemented and there is a "server" image download. You can edit the installer.ini file, start the installation automatically after the installer starts up, use ssh keys in addition (or instead of) passwords and shutdown the machine after the installation is finished (so you or your scripts can remove the USB disk and reboot to disk.) |

There is a nice server image now, along with updated documentation on how to configure and use it. |

Uh oh!
There was an error while loading. Please reload this page.
What do you think of creating a headless variant for server installs? I like to use btrfs and encrypt my servers too and your opinionated installer sounds like it does everything right in this regard.
