Cheap HW like HMMOD-UART for Homematic is not usable.
You only need a old Livsi zentral, or... for getting the rf-module... and usb-converter and 4 wires.

I understand the picotek topic at older times. On the other side, the taken meassures are feeling like DRM for me.
Honestly i don't like Homematic IP, and also i don't like the form factor of Deimos-HW only for having "a little bit homematic classic" ...
So is it time to remove the deep hardware check ? (or am i wrong and its already removed ?)

regarding your request/idea in potentially opening up OpenCCU for other third party RF modules. I am actually all for it and support that - as long as this hardware is released as open hardware itself or at least being distributed non-commercially. Beside that there shouldn‘t be an blocking or other reason why other rf module might not be supported. Apart from technical reasons that require generic raw uart being adapted to that type of hardware to ensure the communication to these devices uses a low level low latency uart communication via generic raw uart and does not use traditional ttySxx devices node which are known to not provide enough low latency due to the tty overhead involved.

I developed this simple board just a few weeks before the incident involving p*tek’s misuse of Deimos’s USB ID. I think the topic is no longer commercially viable for “them.” Hence my suggestion.

Instead of patching the drivers myself every time, I use the following unnecessarily bulky hardware:
HB-RF-USB*

In my opinion, the latency is the same with the cp* chips.
