the Evo2 controller does not communicate via RS-485. It is only RS-232. Some controllers like the Briggs and Stratton use RS-485, but it is electrically incompatible with RS-232. You want an RS-232 interface. You can use the built in raspberry pi serial interface with a MAX232 board or a USB to RS232 converter. Let me know if you have any other questions. |

What is/are your question(s)?
I bought this USB to RS 485 because originally I had planned on running Genmon on a separate server, but ended up trying to get it set up on my existing Home Assistant server. Not sure if @MichaelB2018 saw my post and banged out the app or if was already working on it, either way his app was exactly what I was trying to accomplish. I ran a wire from my generator inside to my server and was researching what connections I needed to make to get connected to Genmon, and realized I may have bought the wrong thing. I have an ESP32 on the way with the MAX3232 board so I can set up gregmac's esp32 serial bridge, but I wanted to try the RS485 connector while I wait, can someone verify if I bought the right thing and point me in the right direction for what connections to make, I'm really not sure what goes where and haven't been able to find an answer that makes me feel like I have the correct information.

I just found this on AliExpress:
Industrial USB to RS485 Converter with CH340 Upgrade Protection, PLC Serial Port IO Module and Standard RS-485 Connector
