Issues

• MessageField equality ignores presence: an unset field equals a set-to-default one, though they encode differently

• encoded_len() is 2–4× slower than prost: varint_len is a quarter of it, and the rest is SizeCache bookkeeping nothing reads

• MessageField::eq is still called out of line for larger T, costing a call per unset field (follow-up to #450)

  anthropics/buffa#550 · Filter by author benedikt-bartscher opened on Oct 4, 2026

• MessageField::clone copies the whole payload, even for an unset field: clone 1.4× slower than prost on small messages

• codegen: deprecated = true is dropped, and adding #[deprecated] back makes the generated impls warn
