Logitech G Pro X Wireless - Sidetone not working

Description

I love this tool and I want to use it to its fullest potential. Right now though sidetone is not working for me.

For example headsetcontrol --sidetone 128 gets this output:

Successfully set sidetone!

But I cannot hear myself. It only works - this was already the case before I installed HeadsetControl - when I open the (GNOME) sound settings like in this issue.

I am on Fedora 44. I used HeadsetControl both with the CLI and with gnome-shell-extension-HeadsetControl.

You are not using the version from #512 PR (current master).
I fixed it and I also added equalizer presets

I'm on Windows 11 and am very much looking to ditch G Hub, which is currently the only way I can get sidetone. And I have to do it in a very specific way for it to stick : launch G Hub, click on device, go into mic settings (where mic level is already set at 100) > only then will sidetone be actually heard. If I back out and go to either headset/speaker settings or back out to device selection in G HUB, sidetone gets immediately killed. Staying on Mic settings and closing the app (having it still running in systray) will keep sidetone on. Killing the app from systray will kill sidetone.

Note G HUB says firmware is up-to-date.

Using headset control through git bash unfortunately leads to HID communication error, even though the rest seems to be working fine, and device is correctly recognized as part of Logitech G PRO Series:

Sorry for the late reply… Yes I did check for a firmware update (using Logitech G Hub). However, there was none and the problem remains.

Omg I thought I was the only idiot having to do it this (extremely dumb) way!

Btw: Sidetone also becomes active whenever the sound mixer is open (but not while it is minimised) or the system control where the sound devices are listed. There you have to open the settings for “input”. It cannot be minimised but you can just bring other windows to the foreground. It’s a hassle every boot but at least you don’t need G Hub…

(For anyone confused because I stated that I use Fedora: I have a dual boot setup and on Windows 11 I use G Hub as well. But I would also be glad to be able to get it off Windows)

Apparently sidetone will be activated only when the headset detects that the microphone is being used, otherwise it will not activate the sidetone at all. So some app needs to use the mic - just talking is not enough.

Exactly, which is a pain, I want it to be enabled all the time so I can know I'm being too loud when talking to someone in the room with my headset on 😬

I've reenabled the "listen to this device" hack, I don't remember why it stopped working for a while. For those interested here is where to enable it (sorry it's in French but should be same layout anywhere - go to Sound in Control Panel, to "Record" tab and to the headset's mic's properties, and toggle on "Listen to this device"). Just remember not to redirect to the headset itself (here I put the sound card) otherwise you'll have the echo-y version in your ears. Apply. Now G HUB doesn't have to be running for sidetone to work.

I thought HeadsetControl would help with those unstable workarounds, by having it launch at startup, display battery etc.

@ChrisLauinger77 your QontrolPanel has HeadsetControl included, so I would imagine the same issue ?
